Lesson Starter: What information should be in a leaflet about Hockley? Discuss with your neighbour and fill out the sheet.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this lesson students: Must understand the importance of using reliable and valid websites and these can be checked (Level 4) Should search for information that can be used in a Hockley Information leaflet and explain why the websites are reliable and valid (Level 5). Could use the information sources they have found to create their Hockley leaflet for the target audience (Level 4/5).Level 4/5).

Reliability and Validity Reliable 1. Can it be trusted? 2. Is this information real? Valid 1. Is it relevant? 2. Is it up to date 3. How good is the information?

What to look for? Why is the website online? Is the website well-known? Is the information sensible? Is the information up-to-date? Do the pictures look real? What does the web address tell us?

The website address. The domain name tells us the name of the website. This tells us the type of website. In this case it means it’s a company or business This tells us which country the website is from

Hockley Research: Search for information about Hockley on the internet. Fill out the table to say what you found and where you found it. You need at least 5 information sources. Write at least 3 bullet points about how you can tell websites are reliable and valid.

Hockley Information Leaflet: Use Microsoft Publisher to create the leaflet. Must contain information about Hockley. Must contain a map Must contain pictures
