Conducted a statewide Ohio ETD survey of policies, procedures, and practices Association seeking to address Creating a Web site Association creation details Selecting Board Members
Surveyed in person or by phone Collected information to determine best practices results-for-conference results-for-conference Located those most interested in a statewide network (these individuals became our first Board Members) Survey results were immediately beneficial to all universities in Ohio and outside Ohio
Issues important to the ETD community Increase ETD knowledge of its members Provide information on how to increase productivity through the sharing of best- practices Provide networking and learning opportunities Advance the ETD professional role Establish standards Promote ETD open access, and more.
Networking Opportunities: Assist new ETD universities, share training materials, flyers and brochure. Assistance with problem solving, filing practices, and developing new procedures. Conferences: meets annually, discuss current ETD trends, and share best practices Awards: ETD Professional Awards: Leadership and Service ETD Student Awards: Innovation and Scholarship
Find willing person/university to host Works best if anyone can edit the site Central site for information regarding the association Maintain members, conference, board members, contact information, etc.
Take a look at other similar associations and sites Find a host university/person to handle funds Keep it simple Small board Limit committees Split activities up between members
Use individuals who are most interested in creating an association Split tasks among board members Find someone with conference planning experience if possible Take turns donating a lunch, a room, etc. to benefit association until it is well- established
