3.5 EbD Reflection on Service- Learning 1 ® ®

Essential Question: ® How can I organize the information I have gathered to create a project that will impact my community and the citizens that are most in need?

Lesson 3.5 Reflection on Service-Learning Overview 3. Brainstorm Effective Presentations 2. Presentation Essentials 1.Class Basics Notebook Line of Learning Common Core Standards 4. Planning and Creating the Project Presentation ® 5. Reflection

Prepare your notebook Table of contents ®

Standards Statement ® Students will use speaking and listening skills to convey what they have learned about service-learning and how to impact on the needs of underserved member of the community. Standards: NGSS HS. Engineering Design HS-ETS1-1, HS-ETS1-2, HS-ETS1-3, ETS1.b- CC ELA/Literacy –SL , SL

Engaging Prior Knowledge Questions to be addressed with a plan are:  What are the needs of the community that have been discovered through the exploration of the demographics that will be addressed through this project?  What additional information will you need to be able to have a clear picture of the project through the Project identification Phase?  What information did you gather about the needs of the community through the data and the trends that it represents?  How could your focus group have a better standard of living through a service-learning project?  Give specifics based on the needs that you have gathered through your research. ®

Engaging Prior Knowledge How are you going to pull this information together? ®

Community Needs Profile Planning Use this document as a guide for your project presentation. Your Presentation should include the following information:  Clear understanding of the needs of the specific targeted group in the community  Evidence from community research about how this project will meet the needs of this underserved group.  Flow chart of tasks built around the EPICS Engineering Design Framework.  How this project will be a service-learning project. ®

EPICS Engineering Design Framework ® Discussion: Have we:  Identified needs in the community?  Identified potential stakeholders?  Identified basic stakeholder requirements?  Identified Time constraints of the project? (This is just a starting point.

Flow Chart to help you organize your project What were the tasks that were identified and the order of completion that would move the project to completion? Break down the tasks into specific steps and use the new flow chart 3.5 to document these specific steps. Discuss with your team the steps to confirm the order of the steps and their importance for the stakeholders. Create your chart and secure in your notebook as an artifact for your project. ®
