OREGON OSHA PESTICIDE EMPHASIS PROGRAM ANNUAL REPORT FFY 2009

Enforcement Activity 86 Inspections Completed  394 Pesticide Related Violations  WPS  OR-OSHA occupational health standards related to pesticides.  30% were cited as serious  14 inspections with civil penalties directly related to WPS  86% were classified as Tier One inspections.

303 of the 394 PRV Handler Related 113 PPE – 74 specifically related to respiratory protection 31 Decontamination 19 Training 20 Central Posting 1 Label specific issues 51 Hazard Communication 9 Supervision, medical records or health hazard control measures, failure to report hospitalization

Handler Related Violations 8 were violations of the Fumigant rules – No fumigation management plan

Handler Related Violations 13 Violations were for lack of a 15 minute emergency eyewash when using pesticides capable of producing irreversible eye damage.

Handler Related Violations 38 violations were related to pesticide storage.

91 of the 394 Violations were Worker Related 58 were Central Posting deficiencies 13 were training related 5 pesticide notification issues 9 decontamination 10 were for failure to provide the OR-OSHA publication “Safe Practices when working around Hazardous Agricultural Chemicals.”
