Politics and New Political Parties in the 1930s

When times go bad and people do not have any money, they look to new forms of government. As the years went by in the depression, people did not know what to do. New radical political parties were the solution.

The Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) made up of middle class educated people and former labour leaders (some of them veterans of the Winnipeg General Strike) wanted government control of businesses.

The Social Credit Party wanted to create programs to help farmers and poor labourers. Wanted to create a provincial currency and give citizens $25 a month.

These parties were so successful because of the bad times. In Germany Adolf Hitler comes to power during the depression when times are tough and the German people were looking for a solution to the depression.
