Presentation transcript:

A sculpture is a man made artefact that is a three dimensional shape. There are many things sculptures can be made of such as marble, stone, metal, ceramic and clay. Sculptures are all over the world there are famous ones and even some made by children.

I have selected this sculpture because it is one oldest sculptures still in a good condition and it like the backstory to it. Because this sculpture is so old the actual sculptor is not known but it was created by the ancient Egyptians but it is rumoured that it was built by Khafre.

It is made of the native limestone in Egypt. The technique used to make the sphinx is chipping the stone with chisel. There are many other hypotheses that have been argued about. The original work was of course in Egypt where it stands.

It is believed that the sphinx resembles Khafre’s older brother rather than himself. The Head Is believed to be a head of a god and the body is a lion which represents wisdom and strength. Traces of paint can be seen on the sphinx so they think it was painted multi-coloured.
