The THEME of PELI 2011 PELI Objectives: Examine tenets of leadership that address change for adaptation to Pakistan’s education reform. Explore environmental education models and standards that identify challenges and implement solutions in curricula and community. Provide enriched English immersion for enhancement of linguistic skills and cultural understanding. Translate institute content, highlighting best pedagogical practices, into culturally and geographically appropriate initiatives to affect positive change and growth in literacy in communities In Pakistan. Share activities and the outcomes with the global learning community. Foster respect amongst the diverse cultures of Pakistan and the United States by building relationships through cross-cultural exchanges that transcend boundaries.
Master Action Plan. A very important aspect of the PELI tour of USA is the formulation of a MAP that was successfully done by the PELI members at Plymouth State University. The MAP is a representation of the gained knowledge from the institute keeping in view the current problems in the relevant areas of education in Pakistan. Every participant is supposed to do something corrective in these areas through the implementation of their MAP in Pakistan on their return. My MAP is presented below:
. Master Action Plan MAP Title:-- Development of a rubric as objective assessment technique for teachers in teaching- learning formative and summative assessment. MAP Audience:-- 25 Primary and Secondary school teachers of my cluster schools in Lahore. MAP Duration:-- The MAP consists of Week 1:three days for observation, Week 2: One day training session, and two days IT session and Week 3: three days follow up session.
MAP Goals The goals of this project are: * PELI Goal 1-- Translate institute content highlighting best teaching practices. * Educational Goal-- Train in-service teachers in the use of a rubric in formative and summative Assessment.
MAP Knowledge. Participants will know … 1--The top research about rubric as the best assessment practice. 2--The importance of being objective as a part of their professional responsibilities, after attending the session. 3--How to design different rubrics to assess the learning outcomes objectively 4--Importance of a rubric to be shared at school level in general and with class students in particular to assess their learning.
Skills. Participants will be able to … 1-- To lead the teachers to practice the appropriate assessment practices in teaching. 2--Develop lesson plans to incorporate proper assessment techniques into the school curriculum. 3--Have their formative and summative assessments objectively. 4--The participants will be able to guide other teachers regarding how to and why to develop and share a rubric.

Week 1st.Three days Contacting and Observation Objectives Contacting the principals of both branches of my cluster school. To observe the teachers in their real situation doing assessment during their routine teaching. Materials checklist. Procedure The participants will be observed during their teaching and marking sessions and their exams papers will be assessed to see if they are meeting the required goals and objectives of the contents being examined. Week 2: Day 1 Learning Session Objectives To deliver the content through different activities regarding the importance of a having and sharing a rubric with the students in each subject. The ways how to develop a relevant rubric by sharing a rubric about reading skills. Materials Charts,PPTs,Markers Photocopies or manual, White board Procedure Session 1. Tiny Transfer book will be made by the participants. Names tag activity will be conducted: Participants will draw their interests on their name tag cards and others will guess their interests. Participants will introduce themselves one by one. Pre-test will be conducted about The ways they assess their students. What is a rubric? Its importance in objective assessment. 4. Objectives of the training session will be shared. The lecture will be delivered on what is a rubric and its importance with the help of a PowerPoint presentation on reading skills rubric. The participants will be engaged in different activities regarding how the objectives of a particular content are set by giving them different types of content i.e English, Urdu, Chemistry etc provided to them to develop a rubric. Session 2. After tea break/Lunch Snow fall activity will be done to energize the teachers and to know about their views regarding the sessions underway and the importance of objectivity in assessment by the teachers. Charts will be given to the participants to share their reflections about Rubric in assessment in Think Pair Share activity. Week 2nd.Two days IT session Objectives The Participants will be able to use computer with internet to find out help for the development of rubrics for their relevant subjects. Materials Computers. PPT Internet: relevant sites: rubistar Note books Text books Markers White board Charts Procedure The participants will be taught how to use internet with the help of a PPT. Then they will be taken to a computer lab with the internet facility. They will be instructed by showing them the practical how to search the relevant sites for finding out help for developing a rubric. Individually they will search the sites and explain to one another how to work on the internet for the relevant tasks. Individual presentations by the participants will be due towards the end of the session. Assessment Formative: observation Checklist Summative: Demonstration on computer by the teachers for forming rubrics
Week 3: Three days. Follow up/Support session Objectives The participants will be observed in their teaching and marking sessions to see the level of learning or to observe if any change has been brought about by them in their assessment technique, in follow up sessions. Teachers' interview about the change they feel in their teaching and assessment and Students' interview about the change they feel in their learning having the objectives shared with them before the teaching sessions, will be conducted randomly. Materials Checklist, Video camera, Reflection Paper Procedure I shall observe the teachers in their teaching and marking sessions, make notes and mark the checklist options. I shall interview the teachers regarding what changes they have felt after the introduction of a rubric in their teaching profession. Some of the teachers and students will be given blank papers to write down their comments about rubrics. I shall also interview the students randomly to find out what effects they have found in their content understanding since the introduction of a rubric in the content.
