Parents meeting January 30 th 2013

Accelerated progress…  Children who have not made the expected level of progress are given small group tuition, extra to their RWI lesson, up to 4 times a week for 20 minutes. In our last 7 week cycle:  EYFS - 64% of pupils made 2 or more levels of progress.  KS1 - 58% of pupils made 2 or more levels of progress.  KS2 – 38% of pupils made 2 or more levels of progress.

Storybooks and Get Writing Books 9/19/2015

Look at the books. See if you can find: Speed sounds green and red words Story introduction Reading through the story Reading with expression Questions Writing activity Remember Ditties and home reading books are homemade.

Beginning with books Books are structured, like a a staircase so they increase in difficulty. Children will work on them in school. Teaching is focussed, so they will be with children of similar ability.

Beginning with books Half termly assessments. Staff move around and teach different groups. Books can be taken home. Reading diaries.

There’s a space in the reading diary for each day. Praise is very important. Think of a positive comment. Incentives 3 reads from 1 book + 3 diary entries = a dip in the box on Friday Sally can blend. Dad is really proud. Humphrey loved answering the questions Excellent. Maureen read all by herself.

9/19/2015 Assessment… The children are assessed for their phonic understanding every 7 to 8 weeks. From these assessments they are then re- grouped by the school leadership team and the groups are cross checked with teacher knowledge (class & RWI teacher).
