Student Digital Leaders Driving Change!

Change happens all the time, its fast and furious, students are not only part of it, they DRIVE it We’re going to tell you why students should be more involved in shaping and driving your learning – using the skills they already have, what benefits there will be to you, your students and your school!

DIGITAL LEADERS What do we mean by being a digital leader at our school? What are the benefits?

DIGITAL LEADERS What skills does a digital leader need – how can you develop students into digital leaders?

Digital Leaders “We are working to help every student and teacher become a digital leader! Who we are and what we do Teaching, Training Review, Reflect Create, Construct

Digital Leaders Setting up: Students asked and/or self- selected…. Training needed: IT, Communication When, How….

Implementing Change Feedback Personalising pathways Customized learning!

What have we achieved? Helping teachers, in lessons and in their staff training sessions! Helping students with IT problems Lessons and activities tailored to how WE want to learn It’s OUR learning - they’re OUR lessons! Working with other year-groups Academic success (better exam results!)

Year 7 Digital Leaders “If we get involved then we can make our lessons what we want them to be, more creative, more fun, the way that we want to learn”

Why use year 7’s Benefits Why we got involved What we do How to encourage students to be digital leaders Cross year working Our new project

Reflections, Conclusions, Advice! Identify students – not necessarily the obviously ‘techy’ ones… Clear Training suited to what they are to do… Publicize what they do – to their class, teachers….

“Don’t be afraid” “ teachers need to trust students” Be the ones to make learning the best it can be! Use all your resources! Don’t be afraid to share as well.

Top Tips for Students You are the future – believe in yourself! You are the ones that can make a real difference. Think about what your strong points are (if you’re not sure, ask a friend!) – this will help show you how and where you can be the most effective! Go back to your school, and tell your teachers that you want to help and how you can help – it might be in a particular subject, it might be helping set up a focus group! The best thing you can provide your school with, is ideas and enthusiasm. Talk to your teachers, your head- teachers, tell them what can be done, what must be done – and how you can help them do it! Why not see if you can team up with a Digital Leader from another school to offer help and support!

Top Tips for Teachers 1.Start small, (then be ready for a snowball). 2.Carefully choose your pioneers (staff & students) 3.Students are your best resource – harness their creativity – yet allow them the freedom to innovate! 4.Dive into the world of technology! (Risk-IT) 5.(Self) Select students by their wish to work in a particular subject area or with a given teacher 6.Don’t be limited by any one particular model 7.Don’t underestimate your students – they will easily surpass your expectations 8.Give students the freedom to explore and create 9.Management support – use students to talk to both teachers, Senior Management and Head-Teachers 10.Use students as INSET support
