KIDSPORT TIMMINS 376 POPLAR AVE TIMMINS,ONTARIO P4N 4S4 PHONE: FAX: WEBSITE: Charitable #: RR0001 OUR MISSION To help the youth of Timmins overcome social and economic barriers, which have prevented or limited their participation in sport, recreation and physical activity, by issuing direct financial subsidies/grants for registration fees and the purchase of equipment.

Children and youth currently face challenges and barriers in organized sports and recreation programs such as: the lack of facilities, the cutback of after school programs, the lure of multimedia, and the sharp rise of registration fees and equipment costs. As a direct result, childhood inactivity has increased. Impact: The lack of physical activity directly affects the health and personal development of children and youth. In turn this impact spreads to families, our community and our country. Importance of Sports and Recreational Activity Physical activity enables a child the opportunity for optimal growth and development. It creates a platform for improved health, strengthening of bones and muscles, and an increased flow of oxygen through the body. Further, it lowers the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Also, sports/recreational activity helps build key social skills – self esteem, leadership, goal setting, and teamwork. However, as a result of barriers, the ‘right” to play sports/recreational activities is becoming a ‘privilege”. KidSport Timmins is dedicated to ensuring that all kids have the opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities. Our History The KidSport Timmins Chapter was formed in 2002 as a result of need expressed by a number of key community leaders and service providers. It received its Charter from KidSport Ontario in November The official community launch took place June 7, 2002 at the Shania Twain Centre. Since June 7, 2002 KidSport Timmins has helped over 1300 children participate in various sports and recreational programs. Some children participated in more than one activity, which translates into over 2200 different sport & recreation opportunities! Since the chapter launch, KidSport™ Timmins has issued over $309,900 in registration and equipment grants!! The dollar amounts being allocated to Timmins children reflect the significant need for KidSport™ within our community. KidSport™ strives to make a difference in Timmins through the direct issuance of registration and equipment grants to modest and low-income families.  Funds are continuously being raised through various community events. The main fundraiser is the Lever Sullivan Golf Tournament.  Donations are accepted from organizations, businesses, and individuals. KidSport Timmins has a charitable number, thus receipts are issued to contributors.  In memoriam donations may be made at all funeral homes, and receipts are mailed to the donors. Grant Limits Grants generally range from $60 to $350 per calendar year (Jan 1 st to Dec 31 st ), and each child 18 years and under is eligible for 1 grant per year. Grants are primarily for registration fees and equipment. Eligibility Eligibility is based on the following income thresholds: 1 child - net income cannot exceed $27,000 annually; 2 children - net income cannot exceed $31,000 annually; 3 children - net income cannot exceed $36,000 annually, and 4 children - net income cannot exceed $40,000 annually. Approval Process The application is sent to an adjudicator who reviews the information provided to determine if the applicant meets the criteria. All applicants’ information is strictly confidential. Using the Vouchers When the application is approved vouchers are issued to the applicant, who submits one with his/her sport or recreation activity registration. A voucher is also submitted to purchase approved equipment. The organization then forwards an invoice to the KidSport office for payment. Grant Process Funds for KidSport™ Challenge
