1. History of ODINWESTPAC (i) The 22nd Session of the IOC Assembly (2003)  IOC approved to implement a review of IODE by a review group. IODE-XVIII (April, 2005)  The review group recommended to abolish the RNODC system and this recommendation was agreed in IODE-XVIII.  IODE-XVIII further requested that, where available, NODCs participating in ODIN assume the functions of former RNODCs.  In the particular case of WESTPAC, IODE-XVIII commended that good work of the RNODC has been implemented, and instructed the IODE Officers to identify a mechanism to maintain the functionality of the IODE Regional Coordinator for the WESTPAC region.  The Committee further requested IOC/WESTPAC-VI to consider the establishment of an ODIN for the Western Pacific region.

1. History of ODINWESTPAC (ii) IOC/WESTPAC-VI (May 2005)  The IOC/WESTPAC-VI decided to establish an inter-sessional working group that will study to establish ODIN in the WESTPAC region.  The IOC/WESTPAC-VI also adopted a resolution to establish ODIN in the WESTPAC region. After IOC/WESTPAC-VI (August 2005)  Following to the resolution of IOC/WESTPAC-VI, Inter- sessional Working Group (IWG) was organized in August 2005 which consisted of representatives from interested member states and related organizations specified in the resolution of IOC/WESTPAC-VI.
