Guangzhou, located at the flourish Pearl River Delta( 珠江 三角洲 ) area, is the central city of South China. As the capital of Guangdong province, Guangzhou is one of the most important cities in China with a population of about 10 million, covering an area of 7,400 square kilometers.
Once upon a time five celestial beings in colourful robes, each riding a coloured goat holding an ear of grain in its mouth came down to Guangzhou. So Guangzhou is known as the Goat City （羊城） because of this legend. 传说有五位仙人骑着五只口衔谷穗的羊降临广州。 因此，广州便有了： “ 羊城 ” 的美名。 With the Tropic of Cancer （北回归线） crossing through north of the city, Guangzhou enjoys a favourable weather, thus is also called Flower City （花城）. 又因北回归线从城北穿过，四季如春、 繁花似锦，故又有 “ 花城 ” 之称。
