What do you notice about Nigeria’s population? Population pyramids are used by Geographers to look at the structure of the population. What do you notice about Nigeria’s population? HINT: which age group is the largest?

Nigeria’s population pyramid is thin at the top Nigeria’s population pyramid is thin at the top. This means people in Nigeria are not expected to live as long as those in the UK. Nigeria’s pyramid is wide at the bottom. This means there is a high birth rate. The UK has a narrower bottom so the birth rate is lower.

Which states have the highest population density? Population density means the number of people living in an area. It is usually measured per square mile or square kilometre. Can you see any patterns on the map on the left? Where are the areas with the highest/lowest populations?

Writing About Nigeria’s Population Write a paragraph about Nigeria’s population. Try to include the 5W’s – what, when, who, why, where? Use the levels in the blue box to help you.
