Grew out of an experimental project of the Dept of Defense, Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) in the late 1960’s.

Information Technology Foundations-BIT The World Wide Web The World Wide Web is a system of universally accepted standards for storing, retrieving, formatting, and displaying information via a client/server architecture. –Not the same thing as the Internet Internet functions as the Transport mechanism. WWW is an application that uses the Internet, is another example of an app that runs on the Internet. –Home page: a text and graphical screen display that usually welcomes the user and explains the organization that has established the page. –Uniform resource locator: the set of letters that points to the address of a specific resource on the Web.
