Aims of Barcelona Meeting The UNISDR posed the following questions to the first consultative meeting: Do we need a Local Government Alliance for DRR ? What would be the purpose and added value of the LGA/DRR ? What should be its objectives and activities ? What should be the incentives for participation and involvement ? What mechanisms should be developed to sustain the Alliance in the medium and long-term?

Positive Results from Positive People

Barcelona Major Decisions & Outcomes Do we need a Local Government Alliance for DRR ? A resounding YES from delegates. Substantive progress on draft Terms of Reference for the LGA/DRR to be circulated, reviewed and further input. Agreement to set-up small Advisory Group to guide development of LGA/DRR. Agreement to prepare compilation of good practices / lessons learned by local and regional authorities in DRR.

Further Actions for UN/ISDR Secretariat Supporting the needs of the Advisory Group. Setting-up mailing list to facilitate online exchange & discussions among local & regional authorities. Facilitating access to other online services and resources provided through PreventionWeb Facilitating discussion and exchange through teleconferences and other means. Facilitating the organisation of follow-up meetings and events prior to next session of Global Platform for DRR.

Intervening Progress Draft Terms of Reference for LGA/DRR revised and circulated. Draft Roles and Responsibilities and Key Activities for the Advisory Group circulated. LGA DRR pages created on UN ISDR website. Mailing list set-up on PreventionWeb to enable information sharing Second consultative meeting set-up in Chengdu

Possible Next Steps Agree Advisory Group membership and final ToR Publicise LGA-DRR in our countries & establish what Govts doing re HFA implementation: how? Review fitness-for-purpose of ISDR website ? Determine how to begin gathering best practice Develop links with other LG networks and Latin America ? Provide inputs towards Geneva & Incheon events
