Conflict v Peace – 9/11 Describe and explain the EVENT The terrorist attacks happened on the 11th September Four passenger planes were hijacked in the USA. Two planes flew in the twin towers or World Trade Centre and destroyed the towers and killed many people especially fire fighters who were in the building to rescue people and put out fires. United 93 crashed in a field after passengers fought back to stop the plane destroying it’s target. The Pentagon building was crashed into and people killed. Al-Qaeda were suspected of being the group responsible for the attacks; and in 2004, the group's leader Osama bin Laden, who had initially denied involvement, claimed responsibility for the attacks.Al-QaedaOsama bin Ladenresponsibility for the attacks

Muslim organizations in the USA condemned the attacks and assisted with monetary donations, blood drives, medical assistance, food, and shelter for victims. Tens of thousands of people attempted to flee Afghanistan following the attacks, fearing a response by the United States The attacks had a significant economic impact on United States and world markets. 18,000 small businesses near the World Trade Center were destroyed or displaced. North American air space was closed for several days after the attacks and air travel decreased.
