Describe the kinds of information to include in specific reports. Identify tips for writing a clear, concise, and useful report. Recognize and address patterns and trends. Explain how the tone of a report can affect worker morale and motivation. REPORT WRITING

3 | WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM STANDARDIZED CURRICULUM – September 2012eere.energy.gov The Purpose of Reporting Audit, monitoring, and inspection reports ensure the WAP operates effectively and efficiently. Measures are implemented correctly. Funds are spent wisely. Reports verify program oversight. Reports can recommend training and technical assistance (T&TA) where needed. Reports can be used to compile data for national program evaluations. REPORT WRITING

Document that appropriate and allowable measures are installed in WAP units. Confirm the weatherization work completed in a dwelling was what was recommended within the audit or priority list. Inspection Reports REPORT WRITING

5 | WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM STANDARDIZED CURRICULUM – September 2012eere.energy.gov Inspection Reports Document post-weatherization test results. Verify billing was correct and everything billed was actually installed in the dwelling. Confirm quality workmanship on every WAP unit. Identify poor workmanship and maintain tracking record of “call-backs” and re-inspections by the local agency inspector. Result in sign-off by final inspector as a completed WAP unit to be reported for production goals. REPORT WRITING Inspection reports should:

Inspectors fill in information on the inspection form. There is generally not a large amount of text narrative. The inspection report indicates if measures were installed as required, and if any rework is required. REPORT WRITING

7 | WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM STANDARDIZED CURRICULUM – September 2012eere.energy.gov Tips for Inspection Reports Review the audit report and address any special issues the auditor mentions. Be as thorough as possible. Use complete sentences. Detail why any measures the auditor recommended were not implemented. Note the quality of workmanship observed at the dwelling. Issues related to particular measures should be noted individually. Use good penmanship! REPORT WRITING

Document any pre-weatherization test results. Recommend measures to be implemented. Explain unique or difficult issues to installation technicians. REPORT WRITING

Auditors fill-in information on the audit form. There is generally not a large amount of text. Sample NEAT Audit recommended measures produced from auditor’s inputs after field assessment.
