Charge to the Workgroup To facilitate a significant discussion among academic units, industry statisticians, and government statisticians about the preparation of statisticians. Specifically (deliverables): Develop and launch a process by which the undergraduate statistics curriculum guidelines approved by the ASA Board in 2000 will be updated. Develop and launch a process to create a document that will provide curriculum guidance for MS and PhD programs in Statistics. Report due to ASA Board by December 2010

Work So Far Three subgroups, collecting information: –Bachelors Degree Issues, Dalene Stangl, Chair –MS/PhD Issues, Nandini Kannan, Chair –Government, Industry and Medical Schools (as employers), Eileen King, Chair Panel discussion yesterday, with speakers from academia and industry; audience input was very informative.

Recommendations from UG Group Create a committee of representatives from academics, government, and industry that –Survey academic departments, industries, government agencies, and graduates to determine the extent to which Guidelines are used Guidelines are beneficial in development of programs Students are well prepared for graduate programs and the work force Guideline adaptation is needed Based on survey results: –Update guidelines to evolve parallel to the changing needs of graduate programs and the work force

Advice from You to: Input to the process: How do we get input and consensus from academia, industry and government? Dissemination of the results: How do we assure that the guidelines are used, once ASA has created them? Ongoing process: How do we make sure the guidelines are updated periodically?
