Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Outline Introduction Conduct of Tutorials Tutorials and Study Groups Vertical Interactions in a Tutorial System Current Challenges Conclusion

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Introduction A tutorial system is a veritable tool for impactful learning by students A good tutorial is usually conducted in a less formal setting and it helps in mentoring of young teachers. An effective tutorial system is student-centred and student- driven It provides the student the opportunity to explain to others that which has been taught, according to the student’s level of understanding Therefore, an effective tutorial system is expedient for the University.

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Conduct of Tutorials Covenant University has a committee that drives the tutorial teaching method at the undergraduate level. For effectiveness of the tutorial system in Covenant University, its conduct must be coordinated by senior faculty assisted by young academics serving as teaching assistants. An effective tutorial system must also encourage regular oral and written feedback from students on the tutorial system.

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Tutorials and Study Groups An effective tutorial system must necessarily encourage or stimulate team-based learning among students. This can be done by encouraging vibrant study groups and small learning communities in residential settings and beyond to make the tutorial system effective.

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Vertical Interactions in a Tutorial System An effective tutorial system always seek means to encourage productive undergraduate-postgraduate interactions The goal here is to broaden the scope of the undergraduate students and to consolidate the tutorial system Such undergraduate-postgraduate interactions will also help in identifying good hands that could be recruited as lecturers in the future

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Current Challenges Progress on building a structure for an effective tutorial system in Covenant University is good so far. However, more tutorial assistants need to be engaged to enhance effectiveness. Also, students should be allowed to spend extra periods in the Academic area to have their tutorials

Covenant University Executive Advance Academic Session Conclusion An effective tutorial system remains a veritable means of ensuring that learning is taking place in the university An effective tutorial system requires the support or cooperation of all concerned All hands must therefore be on deck to make the tutorial system in Covenant University effective.
