Science and Remote Sensing Highlights Two meetings of NIC and CIS science groups in addition to JIWG. Priorities and areas of mutual interest identified. QuikScat: exchange of information on algorithm development and validation studies. C-ICE: NIC participation in CIS field experiment to collect data on the strength of decaying sea ice. NIC attendance at CIS sponsored polarimetry tutorial and workshop. Implementation at NIC of CIS developed false color SSM/I ice classes. NIC/CIS participation in NASA Data Assimilation Workshop to stress importance of data assimilation to operational sea ice analysis.

Iceberg Committee Highlights Renew agreement between USCG IIP and CIS. Develop and implement a plan to verify the new iceberg drift and deterioration model. ––using drifting buoys? dyeing icebergs?
