How to Use PowerPoint A Brief Guide

To Add Animation… 1.Insert an image from Clip Art or highlight a textbox. 2.Click “Slide Show” on the toolbar. 3.Click “Custom Animation” in the drop down menu. 4.Choose an animation effect from the “Add Effect” options. The different effects are represented by different color stars (e.g. green, yellow, orange). 5.Once you choose an animation you can adjust how the image or textbox appears on the screen by adjusting when it comes in using the “Start” drop down menu. You can also decide where the image or textbox comes in from using the “Property” drop down menu. The speed at which the image or textbox appears can be adjusted using the “Speed” drop down menu.

To Add Sound… 1.Click “Insert” on the toolbar. 2.Click “Sound and Music” in the drop down menu. 3.Click “From File…” in the next drop down menu. 4.Select the music file you would like to add to your PowerPoint presentation. Click “Insert” once you have highlighted the correct file. 5.You will then be presented with the question: “How do you want the movie to start?” You may choose for the music to begin when the PowerPoint begins or when you “click” the speaker icon on the slide.

To Change How Slides Transition… 1.Click “Slide Show” on the toolbar. 1.Click “Transitions” in the drop down menu. 1.Select from the menu the type of transition you want to assign to your individual slide or all of your slides. You have options in several categories: Fades and Dissolves, Wipes, Push and Cover, Stripes and Bar, 3-D, and Random. 1.Once you have decided which transition you would like to apply to your PowerPoint, click the “Options” button on the left-hand side of the screen. The “Options” box allows you to determine if the transition you selected will apply to all of your slides or just one. You can also adjust the speed and timing of each slide’s transition.
