“A Marriage is a Private Affair” This is the author of the short story. He said this quote. Born 1930 in Nigeria (died in 2013). This is what Chinua Achebe believed. Keep this is mind as we read his short story. Mr. Achebe is African. Glue or tape down (be careful not to glue or tape down the parts you will write on or under. 2.Now fold on the dotted lines. 3.Read the information on the strip of paper & glue/tape under the top flap. 4.Read the information on the strip of paper & glue/tape under the middle flap. 5.Using the details from the characters and the author, give your answer for the last flap. Tuesday 8/11/15 SLO Testing Please take this pre-test seriously. Purposely bombing a test so you can “look good” on the post-test does not show learning; it shows stupidity. We have today and tomorrow to work on this. Do your absolute best so your results give an accurate measure of the skills you are weak and strong in.

Wednesday 8/12/15 SLO Testing Please take this pre-test seriously. Purposely bombing a test so you can “look good” on the post-test does not show learning; it shows stupidity. Do your absolute best so your results give an accurate measure of the skills you are weak and strong in. After turning SLO in, please work on vocabulary or unfinished Daybook work. I also have the next Daybook activity you can get a headstart on.

(HONORS) Inference in “A Marriage is a Private Affair” Go ahead & prepare your handout for your daybook. (color, cut, paste/tape, fold). Be sure to write this entry into your table of contents. Number your page (2). Inference: a prediction, an idea, or a conclusion based on what you already know combined with what you read. Read the quote you are given. Identify the speaker’s name & write the name on the flap labeled “Speaker & Page #.” What is the meaning of the quote? Write your response on the underside of the flap marked “Meaning.” What is something you can infer based on what you already know and what you have read. Write your inference on the underside of the flap marked “Inference.” LEARNING TARGET: Cite evidence to support your inferences. RL1

Your turn: You probably already have an inference. To support your inference, you need evidence. In your daybook, on the same page as your Inference Square, write down your inference. Next, locate a quote which supports your inference. Then, identify the speaker(s) & page number, Finally, what does your inference and the quote mean?

What was said & what it implies “A Marriage is a Private Affair” Go ahead & prepare your handout for your daybook. (color, cut, paste/tape, fold). Be sure to write this entry into your table of contents. Number your page (2). Implies: v. means strongly suggest or acknowledge the existence of something. Read the two strips you are given. One strip goes underneath “What was said..” and the other strip goes under the “What it implies…” flap. Glue/tape the strips under the correct tabs. Read the strip you are given. Glue/tape it down in “What was said….” Write your response to this strip under the “What it implies” flap. LEARNING TARGET: Draw inferences from what the text says explicitly 10RL1
