9/19/ Variable Speed Lowdown

TYPICAL EUROPEAN SYSTEM  TRV’s, No T-stats  Pump runs 24/7 (6k hrs)  TRV’s modulate

TYPICAL US SYSTEM  Series loop, fin-tube baseboard  CI bb/radiators/convectors  Radiant floor heating  Mutliple zones, circs or ZV’s  Approx 2,100 – 2,500 hrs of operation

WHY USE A VARIABLE SPEED CIRCULATOR?  Good question…  Best applications…  Zone valve or RFH  Zone pump?  Electrical savings?

5 80W each = 400 Watts 400 Watts ÷ 1000 = 0.4 kW ELECTRICAL SAVINGS????

5 80W each = 400 Watts 400 Watts ÷ 1000 = 0.4 kW 0.4 kW × 2,500 “on” hrs = 1,000 kWh 1,000 kWh × 15¢/kWh = $150.00/yr ELECTRICAL SAVINGS????

1 007 (80W) + 5 Zone Sentry zone valve (1.44W each)= 87.2 Watts 87.2 Watts ÷ 1000 = kW kW × 2,500 “on” hrs = 218 kWh 218 kWh × 15¢/kWh = $32.25/yr WITH ZONE VALVES…

1 Pump (20W) + 5 Zone Sentries (1.44W each)= 27.2 Watts 27.2 Watts ÷ 1000 = kW kW × 2,500 “on” hrs = 68 kWh 68 kWh × 15¢/kWh = $10.20/yr WITH SUPER DUPER ECM…

5 ZONE SYSTEM  70,000 BTUH  7 5’ head  Where does system really work?

GPM = BTUH  T = BTUH  T = 70,000 <  T × 500 GPM   500 NUMBERS DON’T LIE…

1 ZONE CALLING  10,000 BTUH  1 5’ head  Where does it really work?

GPM = BTUH  T = BTUH  T = 10,  T × 500 GPM  NUMBERS STILL DON’T LIE…

The Result? And when it’s 35 0 out?
