Science Review The Sun and Water Cycle

Which statement below best describes the water cycle? A The water cycle is the movement of water from the clouds to the Earth. B The water cycle is the process of evaporation of water into the sky. C The water cycle is the movement of water between Earth and outer space. D The water cycle is the continuous movement of water between the Earth and its atmosphere.

John’s Terrarium Cooper’s Terrarium John and Cooper made terrariums out of large plastic jars. Each added equal amounts of soil, plants, and water when assembling the terrariums before putting the jars outside in a sunny place. Cooper noticed that his soil kept drying out so began adding a little water every few days. Which of the boy’s terrarium required more water and why? A John’s terrarium required additional water because the lid kept moisture out. B John’s terrarium required additional water because the lid kept moisture in. C Cooper’s terrarium required additional water because it had no lid to prevent evaporation. D Cooper’s terrarium required additional water because it had no lid to keep moisture out.

What can you infer from the fact that there is the same amount of water on the planet now as there was one billion years ago? A The total amount of water on the Earth changed gradually over time. B There will be much less water on the Earth one billion years from now. C There will probably be the same amount of water on the planet a billion years from now. D There have been many changes in the water cycle over the last billion years.

Mrs. Mysak’s students were studying a model of the major Texas rivers Mrs. Mysak’s students were studying a model of the major Texas rivers. The model showed the level of the rivers during each season of the year. The students observed that the level of the water in all the rivers was lower in the months of July, August, and September. What conclusion can the students make? A Evaporation occurred and lowered the levels of the rivers. B Condensation caused the levels to be lowered. C Run off from the mountain snow caused the levels to rise. D Heavy rains happened during the summer months.

In this diagram, condensation is represented by the clouds In this diagram, condensation is represented by the clouds. (1) There are examples of condensation. Choose from the list below some other examples of condensation. Dew on the grass in the morning Water falling as rain Fog or mist in the air Water falling as hail Drops of water on the inside of a car window Drops of water on the outside of a glass Water falling as snow or sleet. YES NO

What drives the water cycle? the SUN What drives the water cycle? Condensation Precipitation Evaporation Transpiration Runoff Water

Which part of the water cycle causes flooding and creeks to rise? A evaporation B condensation C precipitation D transpiration

Another question about the water cycle… What part of this picture caused transpiration in the water cycle? A the lake B the house C the clouds D the plants

Your brain is now wired for the CCA. Remember... GOOD LUCK!!! …read each question carefully. …read all answer choices carefully. GOOD LUCK!!! …you know the answer you choose must be correct because you eliminated the incorrect answer choices.
