A personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of poor impulse control and instability in mood, interpersonal relationships, and self-image. For Example: Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, and Emotional Abuse.

ASSOCIATED FEATURES Repeated fight or assault Failure to plan ahead Lying Dropping out of School Conflicts about sexual orientation Commit Suicide

DSM-IV-TR CRITERIA Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by a pervasive pattern of instability, most evident in relationships, mood, and sense of Identity. SAME AS THE DEFINITION!!!!!!. The perception of impending separation or rejection, or the loss of external structure, can lead to profound changes in self-image, affect, cognition, and behavior.

ETIOLOGY Researchers show that the cause of Borderline Personality Disorder is likely from: Genetics Child Abuse But This is a theory!!

PREVALENCE In the United States: 75% of females are diagnosed with BPD 20% is from Psychiatric Hospitization 30-60% clinical population, in general, has BPD

TREATMENT People with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) has only two treatment. Medication- prescription pills Psychotherapy- someone to talk to and help with how the person came up with the disorder, and help try to fix it.

PROGNOSIS Ten years of being Hospitalize, 86% of the patients recover 50% of BPD.
