FoQuetão – Complementing the curriculum Main objectives: Promote the curiosity in science and in the interpretation of the daily phenomena which it explains; Encourage the practical nature of science and develop the critical sense, the scientific spirit and reasoning ability and skill of the students involved. Support experimental teaching of science in an age group of 7 to 10 years. Team: Prof. Marco Pereira, and a maximum of 15 students with educational level between the age of 11 to 17. Frequency of Initiative: Occurs weekly with a duration of 90 minutes with large events periodically.

Large events periodically Construction of a hot air balloon – December Local Christmas Artifact. About 15 students involved in the construction. This activity was filmed Last year by the local television station (RTPMadeira) and was broadcasted on December 25,

Week of Exact Sciences - February Experimental demonstrations to school community About 250 students involved Large events periodically

Scientific demonstrations in elementary schools to arouse children’s scientific curiosity and to show that science can be easily understood at any age. This year we will visit 9 elementary schools in our surrounding community between February and April. About 400 students will be involved Large events periodically

Scientific demonstrations in elementary schools. Large events periodically

Science & Technology Fair - April Around 1500 students involved Large events periodically

Regional Olympics of Physics - April Around 40 students selected by 8 schools Large events periodically

The school’s clubs week - June Around 200 students involved Large events periodically

Weekly We conduct several experiments and also filmed and published on the project blog with their protocols.

Small events periodically Construction of kites and cane cars - traditional handiwork

Summary This science club has the aim to promote interest in science through interpretation of everyday phenomena. Pupils carry out physics and chemistry experiments, to find out the explanation of their surroundings. The results are discussed in group to find the correct elucidation. This way pupils “have fun learning”. We also perform scientific activities that are filmed and published on the project blog: together with guides and tutorials to support them.
