Introduction Principles of Architecture and Construction provides an overview to the various fields of architecture, interior design, construction science, and construction technology. Achieving proficiency in decision making and problem solving is an essential skill for career planning and lifelong learning. Students use self-knowledge, educational, and career information to set and achieve realistic career and educational goals.

Introduction Job-specific, skilled training can be provided through the use of training modules to identify career goals in trade and industry areas. Safety and career opportunities are included, in addition to work ethics and job-related study in the classroom such as communications; problem solving and critical thinking; Information Technology Applications; systems; safety, health, and environmental; leadership and teamwork; ethics and legal responsibilities; employability and career development; technical skills; introduction to hand tools; introduction to power tools; basic rigging; and reading technical drawings.

CLASSROOM RULES Follow all of the rules and directions the first time they are given. Cell phones: allowed to use in production with permission.

CLASSROOM RULES Come to class prepared (pen/pencil, and notebook) on a daily basis. Always be ready to do book work. Be in your seat, ready for class to start, when the bell rings. If you are going to be late: No talking or other noises while I’m or another student is talking. NO food, no drinks, candy or gum allowed while in the classroom and shop. Please leave NCCER book in class room. Folders can be left in room at own risk.

WOODSHOP RULES Safety glasses are required and must be worn at all times in the shop area. Shirt tails must be tucked in while in the shop. When the class is dismissed into the shop area, all students must go and be in the woodshop for the entire class period. Absolutely, no leaving the shop area without permission.

WOODSHOP RULES No horseplay, running, throwing things, yelling, misbehavior, food/eating, drinks while in the woodshop. Use water fountains in the hall Clean up your own mess and put the tools away, don’t expect someone else to clean up after you. Be working on your projects, quietly, in class. Don’t waste the shop time that is given to you.

EXPECTATIONS You will follow all of the school, classroom and woodshop rules. You will productively use class time. When classroom/shop activities are assigned you will use the time to do and complete the work assigned. Wasting time will result in a severe decrease of your grade.

EXPECTATIONS You will be expected to try your best in all that you do in this class. You will respect the property of the school and that of other students. Damaging, stealing and/or defacing school or student property will NOT be tolerated and are grounds for immediate (possibly permanent) removal.

CONSEQUENCES 1st Infraction = verbal warning - documented 2nd Infraction = discipline - contacting parents 3rd or more Infraction = removal from class – using handbook step system. Safety violations and deliberate/gross misconduct will result in immediate removal from class.

DRESS Because of the environment in which this Technology Education Class is held, Humble Independent School District advises that students in this class wear clothing that is appropriate for the setting. In this class it is recommended that over shirts to cover up the student’s school clothes be used because of the staining and finishing of projects and other activities that can damage clothing. Humble Independent School District will not be responsible for clothing that becomes dirty and/or damaged from classroom/shop activities. Lockers are provided in the Technology Education Compartments for students to place clothing that would cover school clothes. No sandals, open-toed shoes or slippers will be allowed to be worn in the labs.

GRADES Points will be assigned to each graded activity and then placed into the categories below. 30% Performance (use of class time, attendance, teacher assessment ~ 5 pts. / day possible) 30% Assignments (bookwork, worksheets) 20% Quizzes / Tests 20% Projects
