Where to go? VirusesHacking Backing UpHow To Back Up

Viruses (OH no…) In the next few slides you will learn the definition of a virus, the different types of viruses and how to stop virus from getting into your computer.

Definition : A Virus zA virus is something that is able to be transmitted through many different things like , pop ups and even through a USB stick or hardrives. zMany viruses can be very dangerous, they are able to erase you data and even see your browsing history.

Viruses Continued... There are many different types of viruses. You have Resident Viruses which lives in the RAM memory, this virus is able to corrupt files/programs that are opened and even closed. Other Viruses include the following: zMacro Virus (infect files that are created when using certain files or programs that contain macros) zDirect Action Viruses (The main purpose of this virus is to replicate and take action when it is executed) You can stop viruses by using Anti-virus software like Norton Security and by not clicking on anything that looks like it may be hiding a virus. Also block pop-ups as much as possible. ( viruses.html)

Viruses Continued... zAlthough anti-virus software's are extremely good for stopping viruses, you must keep updating your anti-virus software as there are new viruses everyday! So don’t stay with you 1998 Norton security software! zAlso an anti-virus software can be very expensive sometimes. A Norton Security software is around $67 or £60 z( Back to choice slide

Hacking (Don’t do it!) In the next few slides you will be able to learn all about hacking including the damages and prevention etc

Definition:Hacking zHacking is when you go into other peoples system or documents without their permission. So if you hack into someone else’s Facebook account without their permission, that is hacking. Someone who hacks is called a hacker.

What Is The Damage? zThere are many damages when being hacked or you hacking into something. zDamages when being hacked: zPeople can see many of your files and are able to delete things zCan put things in your computer that will harm it zDamages when hacking someone/something: zIt is illegal zYou can be put in jail

How Can Protect Your Computer? zHackers like computer who are: connected to the internet - Are you always connected to the internet? zIf you have a wireless hub, do you have a secure password? zHas many files (save your work on an external hard drive or a USB) zDo not give anyone your password even a friend you trust zMake sure your firewall is on to stop hackers from getting into your computer Back to choice slide

Back Up (definitely do it!) Here you will be able to see why and how you should back up. You will also learn about what happens when you don’t back up.

But why should you Backup? zYou should back up your work because if you unfortunately loose you work you will have another copy on a different copy zHowever remember to keep backing up so that you have the latest information zIt is ideal to backup your work every week or even everyday

So what is backup? zBacking up is when you make exact copies of the data you wish to back up. z So if you want to copy your ICT homework for example, you can make a copy and put it in your USB or on a different computer.

So where can you backup to? zYou can backup at many different locations. You can backup things in the different places including the following: zYour computer hard-drive zIf you have Windows Live you can save it on your sky drive zYour USB stick zA CD-RW or CD-R zOn a portable device

Where can you back up? zIf you have backup to a hard drive, then how about giving your hard drive to your uncle or grand-dad so if anything does happen to your house etc your hard drive will be in a safe place zIf the information is really important then you may put it in a safe/fireproof safe Back to choice slide

How to back up? In the next few slides you will be shown how to back up your files to a drive in 7 easy steps

Step 1 I want to back up my files onto ‘SILVERCREST MoBox (H:) To do this I need to go where the drive is, in this case onto ‘My Computer’ and left click on the drive/place you want to back up all your files too.

Step 2 Once you left click on the place you want to backup too, a drop out list appears. Click on ‘Open AutoPlay’ and another window will appear

Step 3 Click on ‘Use this drive for backup’ Another window will open

Step 4 Another window will open and here you can choose weather you want Windows to help you back up all your files or if you want to choose what files you want to back up. Then click ‘Next’

Step 5 Next you will tick the boxes of the files that you want to back up. Then click ‘Next’

Step 6 Once you have clicked ‘next’ this box will appear. Make sure everything is correct then press’ Save settings and run backup’ If anything is wrong, press ‘cancel’ and restart the process

Step 7 A new window will appear and it will show everything about the backup. You can cancel the back up at any time by pressing on ‘View Details’ then ‘Cancel backup’ You can set a time and date in which you want to back up. So here it says ‘Every Sunday at 7pm’ You can change these setting by pressing on ‘Chang settings under that scheduled time and date Back to choice slide
