Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group …and some more….  Cellular Voice/Data Services/device Support (cell phones, Blackberries, Air cards )  VPN Management & Support  At-Home Network Access Support for Board Members  Business & After-hours Support covering Public, Board and District meetings  Project Technology Liaisons regarding Network/Security (i.e.: Facilities projects, ETT, etc.)

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of the different support areas…  Data Operations: Provides daily, nightly, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual data operations functions which includes not only production but also extensive archiving processes, equipment maintenance and documentation. This group provides Data Center production/coverage across 3 shifts. The four individuals responsible for this area have an accumulated 128 years of services to the District!!!

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  LAN Network Support: These 2.5 (half position coverage) staff provide for day-to-day network support for end-user network issues and LAN-based project action items. Support covers the District’s 70+ buildings which includes over 400 network IDF/MDF network racks containing over 45,000 copper network terminations, 7,800+ fiber terminations, over 350 wireless access points (WAPs) and 1,820 pieces of network equipment. Two of the three staff within this group are alumni of the District’s original Technology Internship Program which took District students who studied in technology and provided them with 2 years of on-the-job, customized training.

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  Distance Learning & Video/Voice Conferencing: This staff resource provides support for the District’s extensive Distance Learning/conferencing (Video and soon-to-include voice) infrastructure. Much of the equipment acquired to build this infrastructure has been acquired through the federal E-Rate program and grants. This is projected to be one of the fastest growing infrastructure segments/initiatives within the District’s large network infrastructure. …another successful Technology internship Program alumni story!!!

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  Audio/Visual Services: These three staff provide for all of the District’s audio/visual equipment support needs which includes projectors, televisions, DVDs, overheads and wide range of other electronic devices and components. The group also supports all of the District’s 3,703 phone, fax, and fire/security alarm lines. This group is also assisting with the District’s extensive VoIP Implementation Project and will be tasked with supporting the new end-user phones. Additionally, this group provides setup for District meetings and events from an audio/visual perspective…many times after-hours or on weekends.

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  Network Security: This diverse area of responsibility transcends across several different technology positions and disciplines; all striving to ensure the availability, integrity and safety of all networked District students, resources and staff. Additionally, there are two resources tasked with security as their primary function and are the higher-level resources supporting this technology area. Network Security is extremely dynamic in nature as there are literally dozens…perhaps even hundreds of new challenges and exploits being deployed daily with the sole purpose of attacking networks. The District’s Network Security Administrator was the first female student in Pennsylvania to earn CCNA certification…at age 17!!!!!

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  Media Production Services: This staff member provides for all aspects of District media needs which includes a wide range of recording, filming, photographing, editing, duplicating and event directing/production. He works directly with numerous internal and external entities to produce a quality product that supports show-casing the District and its value to the community.  Project Support Resource: Serves as a direct liaison/support between the various aspects of a given technology project bridging the gap between the implementer/manager of the project and the numerous action items and third-parties which need addressed.

Overview of the Telecommunications, Infrastructure & Operations Group Breakdown of different support areas…(cont.)  WAN/Core/Centralized Services Support: These two individuals provide for the high-level implementation, support and monitoring of the District’s central network and services environment…one for the enterprise network environment and one for the enterprise VoIP environment which is under construction. The Enterprise Network Engineer addresses connectivity requirements and support for all of the District’s centralized servers, Internet services, Internet 2 service, DMZ environments, WAN transport services (servicing 70+ sites) and any extranet collaborative environment/requirements. Also serves as the high-level support for the 70+ building LANs incorporating several hundred subnets and vlans. The VoIP Administrator provides for design, configuration and support of the District’s VoIP Initiative which will provide District-wide increased functionality while saving the District literally millions of dollars by not having to replace aging voice copper plants within the buildings.

He provides identification of network component and equipment standards and specifics in regards to design and labeling. Typically engages with contractors for issue resolutions, and inspections. Also is the resource tasked with cellular services and equipment support.  NOC Administrator: This staff member provides for the day-to-day scheduling of LAN support resources and provides for the collaboration between multiple technology disciplines throughout specific support events and various projects and initiatives.
