 S tudents in 3 rd -6 th grade leave their regular classroom to attend SEARCH where they are  E xperiencing and learning through hands-on activities in small groups with  A ppropriate opportunities to work with other high achievers where  R esearch skills are developed  C reativity is nurtured and they participate in  H appenings such as guest speakers, field trips, and other events

 97% on a nationally standardized test of intellectual ability OR  Multi-criteria-Intellectual ability test scores + Achievement test scores (OCCT & Stanford)+ Teacher/Parent recommendation.

1. Look in cum folder for appropriate test scores. If a child is missing an ability test score, they should be tested. 2. Complete the “Teacher Referral Form.” 3. If it is a good referral, make a copy of scores and turn it into me.

 The Naglieri- administered in a group and compares a person’s intellectual performance to that of others in the same age group.  The Slosson- administered individually. It utilizes a student’s verbal and auditory strengths.

 Look in cum folder for appropriate test scores  Complete referral form  If it is a good referral, submit during the proper screening period-December & May  Waiting game 1. Paperwork turned into coordinator 2. Permission to test sent home 3. Psychometrician tests student at site 4. District sends letters home 5. We teachers

 Check last year’s list to see which students returned  Generate a list on campus  Look through files at both schools  Analyze OCCT scores for students who scored advanced in 3 rd -6 th grade  Send home permission to test letters  Test  Send home qualification & permission to serve letters  Collect letters  Compile and send all testing information to district  Send letters home to all SEARCH students  SEARCH Meetings  Develop Curriculum

A person may make mistakes, but is not a failure until he or she starts blaming someone else. We must believe in ourselves, and somewhere along the road of life we will meet someone who sees greatness in us and lets us know it.

 What does SEARCH stand for? Students Experiencing Appropriate Research and Creative Happenings  In the SEARCH acronym, students are Experiencing and learning through hands- on activities in ______ groups to motivate and challenge gifted students.  What do you need to do to refer a child to the gifted program? Complete the “Teacher Referral Form.”  Where can I find a “Teacher Referral Form?” In the SEARCH folder I received today  What score must a student make on an intellectual ability test to be considered for SEARCH? 87%  Besides an ability test, what other tool is used by the SEARCH teacher to identify students for placement in the SEARCH program?  Name three different criteria that is looked at on the matrix? Ability test scores, achievement test scores and parent or teacher nomination inventory  Name two ability tests that can be given at the beginning of the year by the SEARCH teacher and tell their differences. The Naglieri-given in a small group & compares intellectual ability The Slosson-administered individually & measures verbal and auditory strengths  What other ability tests can you look for in a child’s cumulative folder?
