SENIOR INFORMATION 2015 Landrum High School

College/University Information College Applications  Should be completed by the student  Electronic versions are usually required and are recommended.  Students who use an ACT/SAT waiver will qualify for application fee waivers.  Some colleges waive application fees on College Application Day.  Once a student applies, he/she needs to request an official transcript from the guidance office. Some schools will accept test scores on an official transcript. Some require official test scores from the testing agency. The student should check the college’s website for requirements.  Pay attention to deadlines.  Rolling Admissions – no set deadline; students accepted throughout year until full.  Early Action – typically a first choice school; will be notified early if accepted; nonbinding.  Early Decision – sometimes binding. Make sure to read the fine print before applying.

Community College/Technical Colleges ACT/SAT/Compass test scores required for admission  Seniors can take the COMPASS test for admission into Spartanburg Community College at Landrum High School during the spring, There is no charge for the student to take the test. Rolling Admissions Should apply in the fall

Military ASVAB test required  Seniors can retake the ASVAB if necessary at LHS on November 5th Each Branch has a designated recruiter who is assigned to LHS. Seniors should meet with their School Counselor for assistance with contacting their recruiter. Branches  US Air Force  US Army  US Coast Guard  US Marine Corps  US Navy

Scholarships/Financial Aid Seniors should pay attention to scholarship deadlines for each individual college in which they are applying. Seniors receive a Senior Newsletter during their 1 st period class at the beginning of each month. The newsletter is posted on the Guidance webpage.  Seniors should speak with their School Counselor about applying for scholarships. There will be a Financial Aid Night in January, Students and parents can go ahead an get an FSA ID at Apply for financial aid January, 2016 at

NCAA Visit eligibilitycenter.org for information on NCAA requirements. Students who register with the Clearinghouse have to send an official transcript and ACT/SAT test scores from the testing agency. NCAA will not accept test scores from Landrum HS.

Transcripts/Test Scores Once a student applies to a college or for a scholarship that requires a transcript, he/she needs to request an official transcript from the Guidance office. Some colleges/universities will accept official test scores on an official transcript. The student should check with their School Counselor. Seniors need to give at least 24 hours notice to request a copy of their transcript.

Important Dates SC Ed OP field trip, September 23, College Application Day, October 20, IGP meetings, September and October,  During these meetings, seniors and their parents will meet with the school counselor to discuss their post-secondary plans. We strongly encourage parents to attend this meeting.
