Company History GameStop was originally a store called Babbage‘s, which was a small store that sold software located in Texas. Through many mergers, Babbage’s evolved into GameStop. At a point in time Barnes & Noble purchased GameStop. In late 2004, GameStop reclaimed itself by purchasing 6,000,000 shares of stock.
