Background Ageing of European population Increase in number of people with dementia from 10 million to 14 million in next 20 years Decrease in younger, working population  EU faces a future with more people with dementia and relatively less professional carers to support

Background Dementia care Approximately 66% of the people with dementia live at home –Support from informal (family) and professional carers This number is expected to rise –Preference is to stay in own environment as long as possible –Aim of EU health policies, since this is a cheaper solution than admission to long term care

General aim Aim STAR: To improve the quality of care for people with dementia across Europe, by developing, providing and evaluating an open access online training in six European languages Target group: Everyone caring for a person with dementia, relatives, temporary staff, newly employed social care staff, staff with different language backgrounds Countries: ES, GB, IT, MT, NL, RO, SE
