eRD1 Homework assignment 1. Please provide a prioritized list of the proposed projects. 1. Ongoing BEMC R&D (Crystals, W/ScFI) 2. SiPM tests and evaluations 3. Shaslyk EMCal Note: We already reduced our budget request for 2016 compared to what was originally planned for crystal R&D in our initial 2015 budget request. We also welcome and support the new effort on the Shaslyk calorimeter, but if budget constraints are imposed, we feel we must give priority to ongoing projects with existing commitments. Note also that even partial support would allow these projects to continue.

2 2. Please provide a list of publications, submitted or planned. Published: 1. Journal of Physics: Conference Series 404 (2012) O. D. Tsai, et.al. ‘Results of R&D on a new construction technique for W/ScFi Calorimeters’ Talk at CALOR NIM A 756(2014) Y. Fisyak et.al.’ Thermal neutron flux measurements in the STAR experimental hall’. 3. Journal of Physics: Conference Series 587(2015) O. D. Tsai, et.al. ‘Development of a forward calorimeter system for the STAR experiment’ Both test beam results for the STAR forward calorimeter system and EIC barrel EMcal were presented in a single talk at CALOR Journal of Physics: Conference Series 587(2015) , C.Woody and E.Kistenev, “Design Studies of the Calorimeter Systems for the sPHENIX Experiment at RHIC and Future Upgrade Plans”, Proceedings of CALOR 2014 International Conference on Calorimetry in High Energy Physics. This R&D was also a part of the R&D for the central barrel EMCAL for sPHENIX

2. Submitted and Planned publications, target journal, timiline 1. Crystal Calorimeter R&D for the Electron-Ion Collider - IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, Proceedings of the SCINT 2015 Conference - submitting July “R&D for new technology for sampling calorimeters for EIC central detector.” Target NIM. ( Timeline 2016 – after we complete investigation of BEMC W/ScFi option with the test beam at FNAL). Alternative: “Forward Calorimeter system for the STAR forward upgrade and EIC central detector.” Target NIM – can be submitted in fall 2015 (all test data and MC comparison in hand) 3. PbWO4-based calorimetry for future electromagnetic facilities. EPJA - can be submitted in 2016.

3. Page 25 (talk by Oleg), who conducted these measurements and produced the plots? The plots shown are for the first full-size crystal from Crytur. The first tests were done at Giessen through collaborative efforts with Orsay and CUA in synergy with Jefferson Lab crystal R&D. 4. What are the follow-up plans for radiation tests of the CRYTUR crystals Further radiation tests will either be done by Orsay in collaboration with Giessen or by CUA in collaboration with Jefferson Lab through the NPS project. The latter benefits from synergy with crystal R&D at Jefferson Lab. Additional radiation tests using Co-60 gamma sources will be carried out at Caltech and BNL, as well as additional hadron studies at BNL if the NSRL test beam facility is made available.
