Welcome to Poynton! Poynton used to be a mining village. There is a museum which tells you about the history of Poynton. There are lots of shops and restaurants from many different countries in Poynton. Also there are other facilities like a train station and a library. It is a quiet place full of friendly people. There are lots of good schools including Poynton High School. There are two dancing schools and other clubs like Dippers swimming club and scouts. There are several churches. Poynton is 11 miles from the city of Manchester.

History of Poynton. Poynton used to be a coal mining village. You can still find coal in the ground today.. A railway took the coal to places like Macclesfield and Stockport. The railway is closed now but the old station, which is part way down the middlewood way, is still popular with walkers.. The miners had to work long hours, but the owner of the mines prided in the conditions of his mines, which were hygienic compared to the other mines in Britain!. Tests had to be done on the ground below Poynton before people could build the village we know today..
