fewer students participate in library classes at Saint Francis of Assisi Ann Gozdziewski St. Francis of Assisi

Kindergarten through Fifth grade students have scheduled Library periods each week. Sixth through Eighth grade students do not have scheduled Library periods each week.

Fifth grade students, we are looking at the schedule for next year’s Library classes and would like your input by following the link and answering the questions on the Worksheet.Worksheet.

Budget restrictions. Extended periods in major subjects.

Kindergarten through Fifth grade students get to borrow books for two weeks on a consistent basis. Kindergarten through Fifth grade students get to select books, learn the library program, have story time, and get comfortable with using the library.

Through the school library program students learn to select books and be responsible for the care of the books they borrow. Through the student’s selection of books, the children are encouraged to read by themselves.

Librarian and students visit websites to search for reading level books, hear stories, and research information.

By visiting libraries and having access to many books, and early reading programs, children’s literacy skills improve.

Sixth through Eighth grade students do not have library time in their school schedule. Library does not coincide with the computer class schedule allowing for integrated research and computer time.

Students do not have enough time to independently select books.
