FINDING THE INTERNSHIP, CON’T

APPLYING FOR THE INTERNSHIP IT’S A JOB APPLICATION FOLLOW THE RULES MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE + YOUR CAREER GOALS + THIS OPPORTUNITY. NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR CAREER YOU CAN DO IT!

SLIS AUTHORIZATION REMEMBER: THIS IS A COURSE (2, 3 OR 4 UNIT) AUTOMATED APPLICATION PROCESS TO SLIS FACULTY MEMBER LEARNING OUTCOMES

“AFTER SUCCESSFULLY APPLYING TO AN INTERNSHIP SITE, THE STUDENT MUST CREATE A SET OF LEARNING OUTCOMES, WHICH ARE STATEMENTS THAT DESCRIBE WHAT THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE LEARNED AND ARE ABLE TO DO BY THE END OF THE SEMESTER AS THE RESULT OF ENGAGING IN THE INTERNSHIP. THESE STATEMENTS SHOULD FOCUS ON THE ACQUISITION OF OBSERVABLE AND MEASURABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, AND REFLECT THE DESIRED END OF THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE, NOT SIMPLY THE MEANS OR THE PROCESS (E.G., A LIST OF ACTIVITIES PERFORMED FOR THE INTERNSHIP).” STUDENT-HANDBOOK/LIBR-294-LEARNING-OUTCOMES STUDENT-HANDBOOK/LIBR-294-LEARNING-OUTCOMES

BEING AN INTERN IT’S ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE; SO REMEMBER TO ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT. HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT AND TO USE WHEN YOU BECOME AN INTERN.

Ask Questions YOU HAVE A INTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR FOR A REASON, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE ROPES. ALSO, MAKE SURE TO STAY IN CONTACT WITH THE INTERNSHIP SITE COORDINATOR. IF YOU FEEL AS IF ARE OVERWHELMED WITH THE WORK AND SCHOOL, THEY CAN HELP YOU.

BE PROACTIVE IF YOU ARE DOING AN ONLINE INTERNSHIP, YOU ARE BASICALLY BEING YOUR OWN MOTIVATOR. YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE BALL EVERYDAY IN TURNING IN WORK ASSIGNMENTS AND MAINTAIN CONTACT. KNOW THAT YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM AND COMPLETE PROJECTS ON TIME. IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE, TELL THEM. THEY ARE THERE TO TEACH YOU HOW TO RESOLVE IT.

STAY IN CONTACT SUPERVISOR PROFESSOR CLASSMATES FELLOW INTERNS  THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE ARE GREAT RESOURCES TO CONTACT FOR REFERENCES, QUESTIONS, AND SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE INTERNSHIP AND THE FUTURE!

TAKE NOTES! KEEP TRACK OF THE WORK BY: BLOGGING JOURNAL PROJECTS COMPLETED SCREENSHOTS OF WEBPAGES COMPLETED HELPS FOR SUPPORT WHEN DOING THE E-PORTFOLIO

HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE BREATHE…THEY KNOW THAT YOU ARE A BUSY COLLEGE STUDENT AND THEY WORK WITH YOU ON YOUR SCHEDULE. SO TRY AND NOT STRESS OUT. TRY AND BE ENTHUSIASTIC. IF YOU ARE BORED WITH A PROJECT, ASK THEM ABOUT OTHER PROJECTS THAT THEY MAY NEED HELP WITH. IF ANOTHER PROJECT ISN’T AVAILABLE, LOOK AT DIFFERENT WAYS TO ADD YOUR OWN TOUCH. THIS IS GOOD PREP FOR THE FUTURE.

ONSITE & VIRTUAL ONSITE: INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY NEW SOFTWARE STUDENT CONTACT RESEARCH QUESTIONS VIRTUAL: SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY, AFFORDABLE LEARNING TIME MANAGEMENT ONLINE COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS NEW RESOURCES THAT ARE ONLINE
