 Gather information regarding the CMT ◦ What, when, and why?  Try some CMT-like questions ◦ math and language arts  Learn tips/strategies to utilize at home for you and your child  Ask questions about the CMT Agenda 6:45-7:00 brief overview 7:00 – 8:00 – break-out sessions 2

 State assessment given to each student in grades 3-8  No Child Left Behind (NCLB) ◦ State Education Department monitors each school's performance in order to determine whether it is achieving “adequate yearly progress" or AYP. ◦ Standards rise each year  In 2014, the goal is to have every student, 100%, reach the proficient level. 3

 Dates ◦ Week of February 25 th ◦ March 4 th – 14 th (grades 3,4) ◦ March 4 th – 18 th (grade 5) ◦ Make-ups must be completed by March 28 th  If a student is late to school he/she will not be allowed in the classroom. He/She will wait in a supervised location until the test is completed and will make up the test at a later time.  Not an all day assessment ◦ Begin first thing in the morning at 9:30 ◦ Tests range from 45 minutes to one hour 5

 Your child’s results will be mailed to you in September  We use the results to assess strengths and weaknesses of each student to determine instructional needs 7

 Eat a nutritious breakfast  Have a good night sleep  Encourage – reduce any anxiety ◦ “The first and most important step toward success is the feeling that we can succeed.” Nelson Boswell  Exercise each day – increases oxygen to the brain!!  Practice reading over directions carefully ***These tips will help all students do their best!! 8
