What is (Clinical) leadership ? Leadership saves lives

Dr Chris Gordon ‘Changing of the guard: lessons for the new NHS’ March 2013 Leadership saves lives You must Ensure that you concentrate on the core business.....which is patient care Focus on delivering quality, doing things right the first time

T Swanwick: What is clinical leadership The Clinical Teacher 2011; 8: Leadership saves lives Health care is delivered by complex systems often involving large numbers of individuals and organisations. The effective clinician needs to understand these pathways and systems of care if they are to be able to function effectively, and must be comfortable working both within, and with, these systems for the benefit of their patients. Engaging in leading and managing systems of health care, on whatever scale – team, department, unit, hospital or health authority – is therefore a professional obligation of all clinicians.

Leadership saves lives @juliapeth

Leadership saves lives The brief Professional leadership versus clinical (pathway) leadership What constitutes leadership and what is management How to get the more junior clinical staff to recognise that they are in leadership positions and what can be done to ‘bring them on’ (succession planning) Making management jobs (i.e. clinical leadership with little clinical work) attractive to those who have worked so hard to become good clinicians How to make a good clinician a good leader of teams
