The protest here in 1989 involved the remarkable sight of a man facing off against a tank.

Protests here began when students took a stand against learning in Afrikaans.

He “invented” nonviolent protest as he led South African Indians to fight for their rights in the early 1900s.

This event, involving Chinese students angry about the results of the Paris Peace Conference, is named for day the protests began.

This city, South Africa’s oldest, was founded by the Dutch as a refreshment station in 1652.

The Forbidden City, home to Chinese last dynasty, can be found in this major Chinese municipality.

With the Communist victory in China in 1949, Chiang Kai-shek led his Nationalist followers to this island, where he ruled until 1975.

Moshoeshoe’s legacy, this nation has maintained its independence since the late 1800s even though it is bordered on all sides by South Africa.
