 DO’s say who or what receives the action. (Verb acts directly on this person or object)  Question to ask yourself: who/what is receiving the action?? ▪ Ex. I write him a letter.

 IOP’s say to whom something is for. (Person or thing affected by the action, but directly acted upon)  Question to ask yourself: for whom/what is the object?? ▪ Ex. I write him a letter.

1. She buys a scarf for her. Ella le compra una bufanda. 2. They buy a scarf for us. Ellos nos compran una bufanda.

 When we use le or les, we can be referring to many people…so we need to specify who we’re talking about…  To do this we use a personal “a”

 Rosa buys a ring for her. Rosa le compra un anillo.  Rosa buys a ring for her mom. Rosa le compra un anillo a su madre.  Rosa buys a ring for her sisters. Rosa les compra un anillo a sus hermanas

 To add emphasis like if you buy something for yourself…  Ex. (A mí) me compras unos aretes  Ex. (A ti) te compro unos aretes
