DREAMS – LANGSTON HUGHES (5 MINUTES)  Read and annotate for the following items:  Analogies  Figurative language (personification)  Parallelism  Consider these questions (think about):  What ideas are being conveyed by the analogies?  What is the theme of this poem?  React – do you agree or disagree with this poem? Why?

DREAMS VARIATIONS – LANGSTON HUGHES  Complete the TP-CASTT as a class  Discussion:  How does this piece of art reflect or define your community?  What factors shaped Hughes’ vision for the African-American community?  Did non-African-Americans play a role in Hughes’ vision of the future? Why or why not?

HARLEM RENAISSANCE POETRY PROJECT  6 groups = 6 different poets (analyze poetry, learn about A.A. poets, present/teach meaningful lesson)  Prepare significant information that will be delivered via PowerPoint  Analyze/Annotate the poem using TP-CASTT  Prepare quiz questions to administer to the class  Deliver a successful, professional presentation that introduces the poet, analyzes the poem, and prompts a discussion.  Must be present and on time for your assigned presentation date  Class will receive/lose participation points during your presentation  The project is worth 100 quiz points

GRADING  Individual grades will be given. You will receive a level 1 – 5 rating based on your contribution.  For example: the final presentation and PowerPoint received a 85%. Level 5 students will receive a complete grade of 85%. Level 4 will receive a 77%. Level 3 will receive a 64%. Level 2 will receive a 43%.
