The story is written in the first-person perspective of Christopher John Francis Boone, a 15-year-old boy who describes himself as "a mathematician with some behavioral difficulties.” When he discovers the neighbor’s poodle, Wellington, with a pitchfork sticking out of his side and quite dead, Christopher decides that he will investigate the murder. As the case progresses Christopher deals with his particular difficulties (living with an Autism- spectrum disorder) and discovers some shocking information along the way.
