Seal the Deal! Campaign 2009

Seal the Deal! What is it ? Major UN outreach campaign led by UNEP Engaging wide range of partners worldwide Short life span to end of 2009 Campaign objectives Encourage governments to sign a new climate change agreement in Copenhagen Synchronize and deliver global action under distinct slogan Focus will be on Climate Change with messages based on the worlds best science Rally UN and other partners towards a common goal

Four Campaign Pegs Ideal agreement at Copenhagen will ensure these four things: 1.Industrialized countries need to agree to ambitious mid-term greenhouse gas reduction targets 2.Developing countries need to undertake nationally appropriate actions that will cut their emissions beyond business as usual

Four Campaign Pegs 3.Financial and technological support to vulnerable countries for both coping with and reducing the effects of Climate Change. 4.Establishing a governance structure that can channel resources efficiently to developing countries.

Why should you care about Seal the Deal? Cost of adaptation in Africa according to UNEP will be $7 billion – $25 billion per year by 2030 By 2020, in some African countries, yields from rain-fed agriculture could be reduced by up to 50%. Africa has lowest per capita emission and highest impact By 2020, between million Africans could be exposed to increased water stress due to climate-change
