In the book Corduroy Ms. Kennally Second Grade September 20, 2015

What is a character? A person, animal, or imaginary creature in your story Who are the characters in Corduroy? Corduroy, the little girl Lisa, and her mother

What is the setting? Where the story takes place What is the setting in Corduroy? The toy department of a big store

What is a plot? Tells the actions and events that take place in your story What is the plot in Corduroy? A bear lived in a department store and waited for someone to buy him. A girl wanted him, but her mom said he had lost a button so Corduroy went looking for it. The girl came back for Corduroy with her piggy bank money and bought him.

What is genre? A particular type of literature What is the genre of the book Corduroy? Fiction

What is the beginning of the story? The characters and the setting What happens at the beginning of Corduroy? We meet Corduroy, see the department store, and the girl and her mom come to the store.

What is the middle of the story? The actions that occur after the characters and setting are introduced and before the story wraps up What happens in the middle of Corduroy? The girl’s mom says she can’t but Corduroy because he is missing a button. They leave and Corduroy looks for it, but is taken back to the shelf.

What is the end of a story? When it wraps up and everything comes together What happens at the end of Corduroy? The girl buys Corduroy with her piggy bank money, takes him home, sews on a button, and gives him a hug.
