Where are we in the TIMSS-PIRLS timeline of activities? TA training: March Preassessment calls have begun Data collection begins April 4

How will assessment day logistics be handled with the schools? TAs will contact the schools to coordinate assessment logistics TAs will work with the SC to finalize forms

How will the schools be involved? Schools should – Coordinate the assessments – Identify space for the assessments – Notify parents – Collect completed questionnaires – Receive the honoraria

What will assessment day look like? Assessment teams will – Check in at the school office – Go to the predetermined work area – Work with the SC to set up and conduct assessments – Collect completed questionnaires

For grade 8, can the sessions be given together? TIMSS and NAEP-TIMSS Link have different timings and cannot be assessed together Sessions can be held concurrently

For grade 4, can the sessions be given together? TIMSS and PIRLS have different timings and cannot be assessed together Additional staff can be brought into the school so that – Sessions can be held concurrently – PIRLS can be held in a large space while TIMSS is held in another large space

How long will the team be in the school? Teams should arrive 1 hour before the assessment Teams will be in the school for about 4 hours

Can schools ask for date changes to accommodate state tests? TAs will work with the SCs to schedule TIMSS-PIRLS to reduce conflicts with state assessments

Do TIMSS and PIRLS offer accommodation sessions? No, TIMSS and PIRLS do not offer accommodation sessions

Are you aware that some states cannot use incentives? Yes, we have identified states that will not allow incentives and negotiated a solution

Are NAEP and TIMSS separate assessments even though NSCs recruited the schools? In order to provide the best data for the NAEP-TIMSS Linking Study, NSCs helped with grade 8 TIMSS recruitment Cooperation rate is 91%; highest level since study began

Can you explain how the NAEP- TIMSS Linking Study works? During NAEP some 8 th grade students were administered booklets with TIMSS items During TIMSS some 8 th grade students were administered booklets with NAEP items Data allows for a statistical link and a projection of TIMSS scores for math and science in all states

Similarities and Differences between NAEP and TIMSS

Which states will receive state level data for TIMSS? The eight validation states are – Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and North Carolina The two benchmarking states are – Florida and North Carolina
