Montessori Meets 3 rd Grade South Carolina Curriculum Montessori’s goal is to move students to the abstraction level. Students are given choice within limits. We incorporate technology. Research also becomes an integral part of our curriculum. (This is a key to transitioning to upper elementary.) Students are required to be more independent and accept responsibility for their learning. Help students transition from lower elementary to upper elementary. Preparation for PASS / ACT Testing

Math Third grade students working with geometry materials on types of quadrilaterals. Students at this level are moving to the abstraction level.

Language Guided Reading Language Research Speaking & Listening Word Analysis Writing-Major Focus

South Carolina History- State Standards 3 rd Grade curriculum explores the history of South Carolina Students work on projects in class and at home.

Science-State Standards Students experience Science through experiments, projects, and research. Topics to Explore: Rocks & Minerals Heat & Matter Plants & Animals Motion & Sound “The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.” Maria Montessori

Reporting/ Grades 3 rd -5 th grade will receive letter grades (A,B, C, D,F) Summative Assessments- tests will be given once standards have been taught. Study guides will be given at least 2 days ahead for Science & Social Studies Progress Reports will be sent home throughout the grading period to show student progress Weekly Work Plans will be sent home on Tuesdays

iPads Every student in grades 3 – 5 will be issued an iPad in RHSD #3. At home & School- Students will be responsible for the device and the charger. A fee will be collected at the beginning of the school year which will be used for replacement cost charged for lost or damaged devices.
