Ms. Reilly’s AWESOME ORANGUTANS!

Supplies  pencils and large eraser or multiple pencil top erasers  Small personal pencil sharpener or extra leads  Flash Drive – preferably 4.0 GB or higher (optional, yet very handy!)  Backpack  scissors  At LEAST 8 Glue sticks (WE USE A LOT OF THESE!!!)  Crayons (none of the bigger packs please!)  1 -2 package of Colored Pencils  4 EXPO Markers  3 fine point BLACK Sharpies  3 regular tip BLACK Sharpies  2 Clorox wipes  2 boxes of tissues  Stapler  Whiteboard Marker  Water colors (Optional…BUT REALLY NEEDED!) Make sure your child also has the following items at home:  Notebook Paper – wide or college ruled  Extra pencils, etc…  Ream of white printer paper (any brand is fine)  And you might want to look into getting an extra ink cartridge for you home printer…they run out at the most inconvenient times!

Recommended BOOK purchases  We read several novels throughout the year. Many students enjoy having their own copy to follow along. This year we will be reading:  The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin  Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls  Losing It by Erin Fry (*** This author usually comes in to our classes for an author’s talk and will autograph copies for our children)

Friday Rotations  We will be rotating on FRIDAYS ONLY!  Mr. Cox and Mr. Calvillo will be taking care of Science  Ms. Reilly will be taking care of Art, TNT, MUSIC  Mrs. Owens will be handling computer technology…

Homework  Homework Calendar  Reading…AR 20 minutes…with Fluency…in class DOESN’T COUNT!  Minimal Math…some REDO math tests!  Some finishing up of writing  Few spelling worksheets…most of it will be completed in class!  Signatures as needed (progress reports, AR goals)

Let’s talk about AR really quickly…  Everyone’s goal is 1 point per week…in three weeks they ALL owe 3 points.  Its cumulative and continues all the way through the year.  Reading is to be FUN!  They get to pick whatever they want to read…there are no assigned levels.  They MUST read for 20 minutes each night!  If your child likes challenges…they can PICK a more challenging book.  An average grade level chapter book will earn them ~5 points…they will need to plan accordingly, but rain or shine EVERY THREE WEEKS they OWE 3 points.  Please sign the form that is going home every three weeks and talk with your child about the importance of reading!

Grades  Science is done with Mr. Cox and Mr. Calvillo  If you have any questions regarding this subject area, please refer to them  AR and Progress Reports are given every 3 weeks  Please review, sign, and return the NEXT day if possible!  BUT remember, you can be checking when ever you want…. (see next slide!)

Communication is KEY! Here are 5 ways you can stay in the loop!   Remind  Text: this  (no “ subject ”  Website (Homework info, School info)  Start with “ School Selection ”  Q- Grading System Q- Grading System Parent Portal on website  Home Connect for AR Home Connect for AR Parent Portal on website  Log in Instructions Log  Username: Student ID#  Password: Capital First Initial, lowercase second initial, birthdate Example: Cash Owens DOB: 06/27/2009 Co
