SIGSIM Review for Viability Osman Balci SIGSIM Chair, Virginia Tech ACM SIG Governing Board Meeting March 27, 2009Chicago, IL

MembershipMembership Membership Retention Membership for 2005 to 2008 SIGSIM used have more than 2,500 members in 1980s Our Goal: Increase membership to 1000s by 1.Newly established SIGSIM M&S Knowledge Repository 2.Expanding the SIGSIM scope to all kinds of M&S, not just the Discrete type.

ConferencesConferences SIGSIM Sponsored Conferences: Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) Workshop on Principles of Advanced and Distributed Simulation (PADS) ACM International Conference on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems (MSWiM) Conferences with SIGSIM In-Cooperation Agreements: Annual Simulation Symposium IASTED International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Identification International Conference on Simulation Tools & Techniques International Workshop on Enterprise & Organizational M&S Spring Simulation Multiconference and more …

FinancialsFinancials Current Fund Balance = $191, We will receive $40,000+ from the Winter Simulation Conference as our balance transfer in April SIGSIM fund balance will exceed $230K in April Fund Balance $134,835.79

Publications and Other Member Benefits Member-only access to SIGSIM M&S Knowledge Repository WSC Proceedings (CD) mailed to each SIGSIM member PADS Proceedings (hard copy) mailed to each SIGSIM member Discounted conference attendance fees for SIGSIM members for many conferences including WSC and PADS. SIGSIM members are granted full on-line access to the proceedings of the SIGSIM sponsored / supported conferences in the ACM Digital Library.

Past and Future Challenges SIGSIM did not have a publication since July 1998, which caused membership to drop significantly. We founded SIGSIM M&S Knowledge Repository (MSKR) with the objective of creating a multimedia knowledge base on Modeling and Simulation (M&S) that would a)be an asset for ACM, b)be an excellent source of knowledge for M&S professionals, educators, and students, and c)significantly help increase the SIGSIM membership. Initial MSKR version was created in December 2008 thru March 2009 and it is officially announced in March We plan to expand the scope of SIGSIM to all kinds of M&S. We are celebrating 40 th birthday of SIGSIM founded in April 1969.
