1 Obstacle Course About the Game: Our Obstacle Course allows our young athletes to practice many of the skills they have learnt in PE, and particularly gymnastics, this year. Balancing, climbing, jumping and rolling skills are all put to good use over our challenging course. Rules: 1.There are 4 groups and 4 Obstacle Courses. Runners must wait until the runner ahead has cleared “The Wall” before starting their run. Start Line Balance Beams Tunnel The Wall Slalom Over Low HurdleRoll under bar

10 Ball Throw About the Game: In K1 and K2 the children are just starting to learn to throw. There is no better way to learn this important but challenging skill than by using a bean bag or air-flow ball and marking the distance that you threw. Rules: 1.Throwers are evenly and well spaced behind the throwing line with their ball and cone. 2.They throw the ball as far as they can and mark it’s position with a cone. 3.They can then have as many attempts as they like with different objects to try throw further each time. Throwing Line Direction of Throw Marker Cone

5 Football About the Game: During Terms 1 and 2 the children have been slowly developing their skills in the world’s favourite game. Dribbling through legs, changing direction and stopping with the ball have all been worked on this year. Rules: 1.Half the players have a ball, the other half stand with their legs apart spaced around the playing area. 2.On a signal the players have 30 seconds to dribble the ball through as many pairs of legs as possible. 3.The players reverse roles and play again. Players with legs apart. Players with Football

9 Basketball About the Game: The thrill of a soft ball dropping through the basketball hoop is second to none in K1 and K2 PE. Similarly, the skill of lining up and waiting your turn is not always the most important thing on KG students mind ! Rules: 1.Every player has a ball and when it is their turn can approach the basket and shoot. 2.When they return to the line the next player can go. Hoops to wait in

6 Sort the Colours About the Game: Run fast while making decisions. Isn’t this what all games are about ? Rules: 1.Starting behind the start line, the players must pick up one coloured ball at a time and place it in the correct coloured hoop. 2.Once all balls have been sorted the players return to behind the waiting line. Coloured Hoops Start Line Balls scattered here Variations: Time the players. Use an egg timer. Can they sort all the balls before the time runs out ?

7 Bikes About the Game: Learning to ride a bicycle safely is a vital skill for children in the Foundation Stage. As the world’s resources diminish year after the year the bicycle will provide our most reliable method of transport in the future. Rules: 1.With 1 bicycle each, the children cycle in the 2 basketball courts picking up rings and avoiding cones. 2.Rings should then be transported to the containers on the outside of the courts. Bikes Rings and objects to avoid scattered in this area. Containers are on the outside of this area for the rings to be deposited in.

2 Parachute About the Game: Don’t worry, the children aren’t going to jump from a plane ! The Parachute is a wonderful means of encouraging team-work. Shapes such as the “Bubble” can only be achieved if everybody cooperates. Rules: 1.Children each take a handle of the parachute and follow the instructions of the teacher. Possible Games: Run or skip left and right. Shake high, shake low. Form a bubble. Go inside the bubble. Race around when your number is called. Swap positions by going under when your number is called.

3 Fruit Salad About the Game: Seeing who is the fastest runner is the simplest game that the children play in the playground. It’s also an important skill to learn how to run straight and respond to a start signal. Fruit Salad is a fun way of learning both. Rules: 1.The children wear a bib that has a picture of a fruit on it. 2.They line up behind the start line and run to the finish line when their fruit is called. 3.When “Jam Factory” is called, all the children in the “Jam Factory” run. 4.When “Fruit Salad” is called all the children on the line run. Runners Finish Line Variations: 1.Runners start on their stomachs. 2.Runners start facing away from the finish line.
